the inclusive design handbook

The Inclusive design handbook explores the digital side of inclusive design in greater detail, exploring how online it is an adaptable platform that grows with every new member. It works on the concept of sharing and teaching therefore this last guide is about teaching the inclusive way. The Inclusive Learning Design Handbook created by the Inclusive Design Research Center addresses the fundamental problems of why not every person yields the same results when they have the same lessons. The different barriers different people face and the devastation caused by exclusion and inequality.

This Handbook then moves on to suggest a solution as to how this problem can be addressed and provides methods of alternative teaching such as sonication and web games and simulations. There is even a large section on making standardized tests more accessible, ergo minimizing the deviations by having all students able to take the same test albeit in different forms.

Topics such as usage of EPUB3 instead of HTML5 are also explained with how they can be more inclusive and what exactly is EPUB3. Other inclusive design details, such as WAI-ARIA, suggested code that makes sites and applications more accessible, are also explained in what and why. On top of this, the handbook also provides additional resources for further reading.
